Vintage bamboo rods in wooden box

Question

Bamboo rod set in box
Hi Rich
Could you please value a bamboo rod set (photo attached). The logo on the
rods is "Eagle", with Tokyo Japan underneath. There is a sticker inside the lid,
with #87. The box dimensions are: 3' 4" long, by 5" wide and 3 1/4" deep.
The rods I think are made of bamboo because they're not round and the
fittings seem to be chrome. The larger rod is 18mm diameter (taken across
first join above handle), and the smaller rod is 10mm diameter. I don't think
any of the items have been used. The flys and hooks are built into a
compartment in the lid. Thank you very much.

Answer
Greg,

I don't know how old you are but when I was a kid in the 50s Japanese made trinkets to survive . Made in Japan was synonymous with junk. Originally sold by the thousands to GIs in a light long box with lures and huge flies . Mostly consider trinkets by collectors and memorial to GIs , they have little resale or fishing value. I have never seen any written history on them in English. It is not the bamboo, that good rods were made from and the components are tin or aluminum instead of nickel silver or even chrome platted brass.  I have cast them numerous times and they are not even good fishing tools.
Good Luck
Mac
