Identifying a Vintage Orvis Ultralight Fly Rod - 1968 Model?

I recently bought a unfinished wooden fly rod case that had a bamboo fly rod tuck way inside.  It is in great condition and has handwritten: "Orvis Ultralight  5/9 1 7/8oz  H I D ( think) Looks like a '68 Orvis ultralight from what I can tell, but there is no serial number so I would appreciate any info you might share.  Thanks

Hi Mike,

Sounds like you do indeed have an Ultralight by Orvis.  Orvis is still building bamboo rods so I imagine you can get a lot more information directly from them by inquiring through their web site.

As to value, condition is critical but this model lists as Poor-Fair $135-$150; Good-Very Good $375-$450; Excellent-Mint $600-$700.  I have adjusted these values upward a bit to account for inflation, but the rod may or may not be worth more.
