Palakona Split Bamboo Fly Rod

Question
Dear Sir,  I wondered if you could help me to value my fly rod.  It is a 2 piece split bamboo 8.5 foot fly rod in mint condition.  At the bottom of the rod it has got number 6 the Palakona Regd Trade Mark.  Under that it states it is 8.5 foot (260 cm) and at the side of that it looks like it has got the initials K/L.  It has a cork handle and on the attachment where the reel fits it says made by Hardy's England.  Where the two pieces fit together it is brass by the look of it.  The nylon that holds the eyes is red and it is in absolutely mint condition.  It was passed down to me.  If you need a picture we will send you one as soon as we have worked out how to load the camera disk to the PC!  I would be very grateful for any information that you can provide.  I look forward to hearing from you.  Yours faithfully, R Cross.

Answer
Richard,
I am looking for a 4 digit serial number - to date it at the Canadian Hardy and Grays  page:
http://www.hardyandgreyscanada.com/hardy/roddating.php

You might try contacting Hardy in Alnwick, England. (please send me an e-mail, [email protected], and tell me if this worked or is a dead end)

The Palakona was mostly made in the 70s, according to Homel, listed below.

Books: Antique %26 Collectable Fishing Rods: Identification %26 Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book. Available at most  libraries.

Homel gives the Hardy 8 1/2   model "Palakona #8" fly rod) with an extra tip, 2 sections; the  value of  $80, 160 and $275 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively.

I quote these books written by researchers so you know I am not making it all up, But I include my experience as well.

It has taken me the best part of an hour to write this up , please take a few seconds to provide feedback. Please remember I am a volunteer , the feedback is the only result I get from doing this.

Luck,
Mac

Please provide feedback, nominations are appreciated.
