Great Lakes 1560XL Reel: History, Function & Value
Question
The number on the rod is 1560XL initials FDK. The reel is enclosed spinning rod with the line coming out through the reel and evidently held by the thumb. Great Lakes reel patent #2,783,952 Any idea of when made and how it works? Thanks
Answer
Hi
these were made in the 40-60s...the thumb button is the release for allowing the line to feedout.
The earlier version of the rod/reel - the handle moved a slot from the side to the back - depending on whether you were casting or reeling the line back in.
The later version, the handle is fixed on the side location.
the early version runs $25-75 depending on condition, the later about 1/2 that.
Note prices are down a lot on fishing tackle collectables...so value is hit and miss right now...
