Identifying Your Goodwin Granger Fly Rod: A Vintage Analysis

Question
I have a fiberglass Goodwin Granger fly rod that's 6'6" long. It appears to be all original. The eyes are fastened with a composite material. It's not a wrap but looks like shrink tube. The handle is cork, the reel seat is the typical silver bottom screw/twist cap type stamped with the typical Goodwin Granger logo except instead of a model name it's marked "pat pend" What have I got ? Thanks Richard

Answer
Hi Richard,

Sounds like what you have is a shorter version of the Wright-McGill Granger All-American fiberglass fly rod.  Value is probably in the $20-$40 range depending on actual condition of the rod.

Wright-McGill purchased the Goodwin Granger company in about 1951 and brought to the "Granger" lineup their fiberglass technology.   W-M actually leased the Granger factory in 1946.  I am not aware of the Goodwin Granger company actually making or marketing fiberglass rods prior to their takeover by W-M.

Thanks,  Joe
