Value of Vintage Shakespeare Fishing Rods (1950s-1960s)
Question
I have a Shakespeare 2 piece spinning rod in original tube & bag no. 1432-L (1957) and a 2 piece Shakespeare Presidential fly ro in original tube & bag no. FY-92-07'0" EEE (1967). Could you give some idea of the value of these rods?
Answer
Hi Doug,
These are both good fishing rods, but just not collectors items. I actually have a similar spinning rod and the same fly rod myself but no tubes or bags. Typical value on these would be in the $20-$40 range for the rods. The fly rod closer to $40 and the spinning rod closer to $20 in most cases. These are very durable fiberglass rods and the little fly rod is great for small streams.
With the original bags and tubes, and in Excellent condition, you might get more if you can find the right buyer. If you fish, use them and enjoy them. You sure can't buy rods of similar quality for those prices today.
Thanks, Joe
