Horrock fly fishing rod

Question
I have a bamboo rod w/two tips and a metal round case for it.  It is in exc. condition.  It says "expert bass fly" in hand written and a sticker that says Horrocks-IB BOTSON Co. Utica, NY.  My father has had this for years in his closet. Never been used.  Cork handle is perfect.  What can you tell me about it?

Answer
Hi Diane,

H-I rods are not very valuable to collectors because they were mass produced and as far as bamboo rods go, they were slow and heavy.

They sell on e-bay regularly for $40-$60 in good condition.  Yours sounds like it was never used and probably in mint condition so it may be worth $60-$80 or maybe a little more if the "Expert Bass Fly" model is a rare version.

It's a great piece of nostalgia, but unfortunately it isn't worth a lot of money.

There is another expert on this site named Joe Douglas who specializes in old bamboo rods.  You may want to pass this along to him to comment on also.  He will want to see a picture of the labels on the rod if possible.

Good fishing.

Marc
