Repair to Feralite Rod

Question
I inherited a 2 piece ABU feralite 878 zoom 8 1/2 foot fly rod. It is damaged through much use at the bottom of the top section, where the hollow tube slides over the second section. The damage is three 1cm long cracks in line with the rod. These cause the tip end to fly off during casting! I believe the rod is hollow glass. Can this damage be repaired easily at low cost simply to make it useable please? Thank you, Jonathan.

Answer
Hi Jonathan,

If you know (or can locate) a local rod builder, ask for a reinforcing thread wrap on the bottom one inch of the ferrule on this rod.  It should keep the cracks from expanding when casting and the tip from flying off.  The wrap can be done in a matching thread color and finished so it doesn't look too bad or too much out of place with the rest of the rod.  It shouldn't be a very expensive repair.

The entire rod will be needed to do the repair as the wrap should be applied with the rod assembled to avoid constricting the female side of the ferrule too much.

Thanks,  Joe
