Great Lakes 60-R Fly Fishing Reel - History & Details

Question
i found a great lakes 60-R levelwind fishing reel in my dad's stuff. it looks like fly line on it.its approx 2 1/4 diameter x 2 3/8 wide and has red anodized aluminum ends.  I would like to know a little more about it, how old it is, etc. any info would be appreciated.

Answer
Ken

your reel is probably from the 1930s thru 50s. It may have braided nylon or silk on it, rather than monofilament used today. Great Lakes was one of the low to middle quality reel makers out of Michigan. Their tackle doesn't generate very much value. In excellent condition your reel would sell for $10, a little more with the original box.

you can get more info from the ORCA Reel website..(old reel collectors association).

regards

Bob
