Evaluate fishing poles

Question
I just inherited two fishing poles and know nothing about them. I would appreciate any information on just what they are and range of values. Also should I sell on e-bay or is there a  better way? Both look brand new and little used, if at all. No reels included. What type of fishing are these intended for? How old?

They are:

1. Wards Hawthorne Model 60-6799 7 1/2 feet, Solid Glass, with cloth case.

2. South Bend 1-223-390- 9 feet. I wonder what the material is?

Answer
Hi Ken,

Just when I think I can answer a few questions, someone asks about something I never heard of before.  This is what keeps it interesting.

I basically have no clue on either of these rods.

I did find several items related to the Wards Hawthorne rods.  Apparently, Wards sold a large variety of sporting goods under the Wards Hawthorne brand name.  I found some online auction listings for fishing rods, but these do not appear to be of any significant value.  They do look like typical fiberglass rods of the era and probably will make good fishing rods for you.

All of my reference books cover only the bamboo rods made by South Bend.  I don't have any references to the model number you list.  I assume it is not bamboo so it is likely fiberglass and I assume it has only one tip section.  I doubt that it has any significant value either.  I did not find any references in the internet searches I ran.

Sorry to be so not helpful.    Joe
