H-I split bamboo surf casting rod

I recently inherited the above mentioned rod. It is two pieces, one is the handle section and the other is the rod section itself. It is in the original canvas rod case that came with the rod, it is about 9' when assembled.

Is it valuable or should i have it refinished and start using it?

Hi Bob,

These old bamboo surf rods don't have a lot of value...maybe $50-$75...but they are starting to improve in value somewhat.

If the rod is in good shape, I would probably refinish it and fish with it.  I don't believe restoring the rod at this point will hurt its value any and it should help preserve it in case it does increase in value.

I recently donated two rods like this to a display of vintage tackle. I used to fish with one 50 years ago and really enjoyed it.
