american fork and hoe co all metal rod

Question
i'm trying to date and get a ballpark value on an all metal rod. excellent cond. says OXFORD on rod. has patent # engraved 80990. thanks

Answer
Hi Leslie,

American Fork & Hoe started in business in 1902 in Geneva, Ohio.  They became part of the True Temper company in 1930.  The patent #80990 was issued on April 25, 1930, to American Fork & Hoe for a fishing rod design.  I found evidence of these rods being sold until about 1950 so I assume your rod falls in the 1930-1950 range.  I don't really have any idea about value of the rod, but I would guess in the $40-$80 range.

I have one similar that is also made by American Fork & Hoe.  These old metal rods were what we used when I was a kid.  Joe
