every time i try to find my depth for float fishing i reel in slowly and my float only pops up when it gets about 4 ft away from me what am i doing wrong

Answer
I need to know what you mean by popping up.. If it is coming out of the water to float then you have too much weight on the line. IF it is turning over then the weight is on the bottom and not pulling the float down.
Those are the only 2 things I can think of when you say "Pops Up" I suspect the most likely case is that you have too much weight on the line and are pulling the bobber under the water.
Try using less weight or no weight.
