small and largemouth bass in summer

Question
Hello Jim, my name is Garret and I have a question on fishing. I live over in the Northwest-Washington State to be exact. The water here is about 60-70 degrees hee, its very muddy and its not very hot in the air for temperature. My questuion to you is how do I catch smallmouths and largemouth bass in the summer? What lures should I use and where dop I use them? Just ell me everything you know about bass in the summer. Thank you for your advice!

Answer
Garret whole books have been written on subjects like this.. That said I can tell you a few things. Look for water running into the lake. Moving water like water falls bring food into the lake. Around such places you want to use lures that create a disturbance in the water. I like to use Mepps Mr. Twisters, & Gulp 3" Grub Minnow or even an inline spinner bait. Colors like Chartreuse can be seen better in dingy to muddy water. Also around the full moon if you have Crawdads or Crayfish a small crustacean in the lake or stream you fish then they will be spawning around that time each summer month. They will do so in areas with small to medium rocks. So gravel bars and rocky areas are best. Try using a jig with a rattle in it. I like to use the Punisher Hair Jig with a soft plastic trailer and a punisher rattle inserted.  (www.PunisherLures.com) The Punisher Jig.. NOT the Punisher II.. is what I use for times like this and the soft plastic lure with rattle attached.. (See pictures on website)
Another choice is the Rat-L-Trap which is a lipless crank bait that you can use. It rattles really loud and will both attract and irritate fish depending on the season and water temps. Either way they will try to kill it and eat it.. and the sound helps them find it.
So if you read between the lines what you are looking for are 3 things..
1. Sound like rattles so fish can locate the bait
2. Hot colors like Chartreuse, hot orange, and even glow in the dark jigs.
3. Water disturbance or displacement. Like you get with spinner baits, and twister tail lures, or very wobbly crank baits. Buzz baits can be very good VERY early in the day and Very late in the evening when things are cool.. (Well it is pretty cool all day long up your way so you may be able to use a buzz bait all day. ) Days with cloud cover will be best for buzz baits.
