Fly Line & Backing Guide for Trout Fishing in PA

Question
i have a new rod and reel and im curious how much backing line do i need to put on and how much fly line. also what type of line should my leader be made of, ill be mostly fishing trout in northewest pennsylvania streams. thank you.

Answer
Dennis ,
If you got your rod in a kit with  spool of backing , put all the backing on the reel , unless it is a small reel.I think that is 140 feet of backing.  Many fly fishermen don't use backing. Backing is used  when a big fish takes all 30-50 yards of your fly line out. Buy a tapered leader at a fly shop, try a 9 footer 5x  and get a spool of  tippet 5x , too. But don't be afraid to talk to the guys at your local fly shop they are usually very helpful .
You are welcome
