Finding Replacement Chrome Over Brass Trolling Gimbals for Vintage Fishing Rods

Question
I am restoring an old Harnell #521 rod, and would like to replace the trolling gimbal with a similar chrome over brass gimbal. i have not been able to find a seller of these parts....any suggestions?
Also, how old are these rods?
Thanks
Jim

Answer
Jim,
Never heard of Harnell but I am a bamboo fly rod man.
And you didn't give me enough details to research.
I have been in your shoes, trying to find parts and gimbals.

Here are  most of the things I have done in the past to resolve the problem:
I stopped asking people for a gimbal ,even modern rod builders may not know that term.
Get creative:
Make one out of alternative materials I have tools but carved them out of wood and plastic.
try craigs list- only if you have a picture.
Come up with 3 more names -ferrule  ,cylinder ,spacer
find one that will work or can be modified at the hardware store
make a friend at Ace hardware, They may not have it, but they know who  to ask.

last- I can do it - send me specs, I have a mini metal lathe and it works well - I would use stainless steel, to macsrods@yahoo.com-I will respond with a price.
Luck,
Mac
