Horrocks Ibbotson Registered Cane fly rods

Question
Rich,
I have an old Horrocks Ibbotson bamboo fly rod but I can not find much info about this rod, I spoke with an owner of a Horrocks Ibbotson bamboo fly rod and it was registered but his was #12 he told me that only 13 of these rods were made.this one is #3, I would be glad to send pictures if it would help. Thanks Rich. any info you may find would be a great help.

I would also guess that there is or was a Horrocks-Ibbotson label also on this rod. I can better id the model and year if I see the label.

Horrocks-Ibbotson rods are looked down upon by the collecting community  and often they are justified. They were mass produced , rather heavy and very slow.
May I ask how much you paid for the rod ?

You can read about the history and get an idea of their value in the following books:

Antique & Collectable Fishing Rods: Identification & Value
Guide Homel, Dan. 1997

Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook -Michael Sinclair ( good info on old rods , too)

You can frequently find these books in major libraries.

The guy who told you that told you  搕hat only 13 of these rods were made ,this one is #3?was misinforming you. HI never made 13 of anything. There is usually a model name written in  script on the rod. Thread colors will help me id the rod , too , so long as it has not been restored. HI did not use numbers but names to id their rods since the beginning.

Sorry I can抰 give you a specific value but I have a firm policy that I evaluate rods only if I can see them. I am in Denver , you ?
