Identifying and Valuing Vintage Winchester Fishing Rods (1920-1930)
Question
i purchased an old winchester combo. i cannot find any history on it. it is a metal pole that says winchester 5710 made in usa. the reel says ideal. it has a wooden handle on the rod. could you tell me anything about it or a value? thank you -Nixon

Winchester made fishing tackle roughly from 1920 thru 1930. They were attempting to expand their business, but did succeed thru the great depression.
I think the reel you have is a Montague "Ideal" reel....if Ideal is the only marking other than the reel capacity on the reel foot ("80", "100", etc for the amount of line it held).
Condition is very important on the rod, I would put a range of $25 to $100 range....at the high end you should have the original cloth bag as well.
The reel would be $5 to $10 if I identified it properly.
