Getting rid of Muddy Tatte

I recently bought some "fresh" catfish steaks and the smell and taste is extraordinarly "muddy".  Can they be cleaned to get rid of the smell and taste and if so how?

hERSCHEL; I am not too sure abouut what to do about bought fish except follow the advice of one man who tells me that If I walk by the fish counter in the super market or the fish market and it smells strongly of fish run, don't walk away, and buy beef.

You might try soaking the catfish in a cold brine made with sea salt and cold water.   Soak for at least a couple of hours.  

I would say that the best way to avoid this would be to go out and catch your own fish.
