Which Kayak sot or sik

Question
I am looking to start kayak fly fishing and i am confused about which type of kayak to get I am leaning to a sit in kayak for performance.Which do you recommend?

Answer
Sorry about the late answer but I have been having hard drive issues and this computer is on its way out so I may be out of commisson again soon. I seem to have a few unanswered questions since my email went down and I will try to answer all today if time allows.

A SIK is going to be a definite plus for speed and handling in high winds or surf. But if you look at the guys on yakfishing.com, you will notice that most of them prefer the SOT's as they seem to be able to handle bait tanks and actually boat (hold out of the water) larger fish than I could ever dream of in my 22.5inch wide boat.

But if you think you will get a higher preformance boat just because you are getting a SIK, you may be in for a suprise. I have paddled many wider kayaks than my current boat that did not have nearly enough stability to fish from. And don't let me fool you by trying to sound like an expert kayaker, I am not. The stability/fishability issue is something I think anyone can grasp after a 20minute test paddle.

Bottom line #1 - Test paddle before you buy!

Bottom line #2 - Get a rudder if you are going to fish from your yak. You would be be miserable without it!

Matt
