spillway fishing

Question
hey mark this is tyler from waco,tx which is in central texas anyway, there's a spillway close by where i live and i was wondering if you can give me some tips on how i can catch catfish, whitebass, and crappie whats the best and most effective way to catch each species and should i cast closer to where the water is pouring in or further away and what lb test should i use and what kind? and if theres anything else you think i should know that would help me let me know.

thanks and have a great day.

Answer
To test spillways I will buy a can of nightcrawlers and some minnows.  I will get a fairly sturdy size 2 o'shaughnessy hook and tie it a foot and a half to two feet under a bobber.  I will toss this up into the pouring water and let the bait find the seams where the fish hang out.  If nothing bites, I will move down and do it again, but this time I will cast just a bit upstream.  Do this and you should get good results.
