deep sea fishing in Florida

Question
Dear Mr. Arnov,
Our family of 5 from Missouri have planned a trip to Sarasota in August.  We would like to have a deep sea fishing experience and wonder if this is a good time of the year to invest in such an adventure.  I have read a few things online that lead me to believe that August may not be an ideal time to fish because of the heat.  Would we be better served to do inlet or some other type of fishing?  Our past experiences have been strictly lake and stream, so we are looking for something completely different.  Our children are 25, 22 and 19.  They are looking for excitement!
Thank you.

Answer
Hello Margaret:
Yes, it will be humid and probably hot as well!  However, the fishing should be red hot, too, so if I were you I would try to get in at least a half-day fishing once or twice. From where you will be in Sarasota you could go a short distance north or south and find excellent fishing.  In Sarasota itself Pete Greenan at Sarasota Outfitters has a good reputation.  Also Paul Hawkins and Bill Miller in Tampa.  Or, if you don't mind driving a little, south of you in Charlotte Harbor may be one of the best fishing areas in the world.  There you can contact Dick Hamp or Bill and Mary Cyzewski in Bokeelia on Pine Island (find it on the road map west of Ft. Myers). At any rate, though you will be hot and uncomfortable, you WILL catch fish.  Boris Arnov
