Difference between salt/fresh water fishing

Question
Hi,
I am just beginning to fish in Sarasota/Bradenton area.  Do I need a different rod for salt and fresh water fishing?  Thank you, Joyce

Answer
Joyce:
You can use the same rod for either salt water or fresh.  And that goes for the rest of the equipment, too.  However, some reels (and metal rods) are more resistant to the corrosion common in using fishing equipment in salt water. A lot of fishermen use one set of tackle in salt and another in fresh water.  Another consideration is the type of equipment you are talking about.  For example, in fresh water a large mouth bass does not make much of a run and so not much line is required on the reel.  But salt water fishes often make long runs, and this would require more line.  The best thing is give it a try and see what you need judging from the results you get.  Good luck!
