Wright and Mcgill fly rod

Question
Hello Mr McGaughey,

I have been fishing for over 20 year but am just starting to get in to fly fishing. I have a Wright & Mcgill "all American" No. 3a 8 1/2 foot fly rod that was my grandfathers. I know it fiberglass and its missing the first snake after the handle but other than that it looks in good shape. I have been building my own bass and steel-head spinner and casters for years, and was wondering if it is worth rebuilding this rod or selling it and buying a newer rod. What do you think i could get for it as is or rebuilt. Thank you for your time and energy.

Thank you

Christian

Answer
Christian,
If it is done well your rod might get $60. Fiberglass just isn't collected like bamboo. There are sites on the Internet that want to change that , but  ask for cash if 'hey say it is worth hundreds.

Price Book:
Antique & Collectible 燜ishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book
Homel gives the Wright & McGill model "All American" fiberglass spinning rod  81/2' the 爒alue of ?10, 30 and $65  for poor, good, excellent condition respectively.
Luck,
Mac
