re:antique flr rod value & history

Question
Sir:
I have acquired a 9' (6) six sided bamboo rod. It has 4 pieces to it which all measure 3 ft each.. It has two 3 ft length interchangeable rod tips. Also it has sport king written in white on red back ground in a diamond shape moniker just above the handle. It appears to have pewter metal handle and ferrules on it.It was in a canvass cloth type of storage wrapper. Can you tell me the history of this rod and its value. I would say the condition would be considered to be very good to excellent condition. Photos upon request.Thank you,
spuddy weygant

Answer
Spuddy,
The Sport King rods were marketed by Montgomery Wards & Company, a competitor of Sears.  Most likely made by the Horrocks-Ibbotson Company for Wards. That's the bad news. Your rod is worth 25 or less. Your rod was probably made in the 40s to the 60s.
The model nor maker "Sport King" is not in any my books:

It is not pewter - it is chrome platted brass. There is little to no history on these trade rods because they were sort of mass produced and low in price and quality.
Luck,
Mac
