Abercrombie & Fitch Rod

Question
Rod Kit
Rod Kit
Hi Rich,

I was wondering if you could give me some background and a value on a split bamboo casting rod I got from my uncle. The stamping on the rod lock collar are as follows;

B.I.G

Abercrombie and Fitch

X913

It is 90?long with crimson red wrapping on the eyes and nickel plated brass metal components on the handle. The eyes are polished brass, 2 eyes need to be rewrapped onto the pole. It has 2 tips that appear to be in very good condition. The metal butt cap has developed a heavy patina and is affixed with a steel screw which is rusted. The cork is very good. The base of the rod where it leaves the handle is approximately 綌 diameter and is hexagonal. It is a very cool piece and I would love to have it professionally restored.

I have emailed pictures to the specified address

Any info you could provide would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Mike

Answer
Mike,
Your rod is a casting rod. Reel above handle.
It is not very valuable. It's the fly rods that command the values from the collectors.
90 inches total on all sections? Usually these rods are 5-7 feet .
I can restore it but if you are going to hang it on the wall - I would probably go as is.
e-mail [email protected] for free restore estimate.
A&F did not build rods- they put their labels on other makers rods including alot of Montague's  some Heddon's. The Montagues are very poor quality and could probably not resale for more than $15.  I would not expect it to sell for more than $50.
The loose eyes and the steel screw which is rusted, place it in poor condition.

luck,
Mac
