vintage actionrod model 5612

Question
My wife recently bought a vintage rod and reel combo.  It is a 3 section Actionrod "Extendo" model 5612.  The sections measure 53", 43", and 45", bottom to tip.  Each section has a  loop at the end.  The rod looks like a brown fiberglass.  The label does not have a patent number, but does say "Patent pending".  It also has a rubber bumper on the end.  The reel is also vintage. It has an open face, 2 white handles, and says "Wolverine" on the crank side of the reel. I'm not sure if the reel matches the rod. There is no defined handle on the rod. My question is:  What are their values and did my wife get a good deal(she paid $15 for the combo?)

Answer
Scott,
I think you got a good deal. If in mint condition, I usually say if the  fiberglass fly rod is under 50 that is ok , spin should be under $20.
ebay is a good place to find prices on fishing rods.

if your rod has the bakelite, colored handle, then is pretty collectable.

Actionrod built their own blanks until their operations were swept up into the True Temper conglomerate.

I  am a bamboo man not fiberglass. Fiberglass is just not collected like bamboo. It was made from the 1950s to the 70s.

I have no specific history or books on fiberglass, But here's two web sites that on fiberglass:

http://www.fiberglassflyrodders.info/

Please be cautious about someone telling you your rod is worth thousands until they offer cash. People want fiberglass to be collectable like bamboo but that doesn't make it so.

Luck,
Mac
