Choosing the Right Fly Line for a Vintage Daiwa Rod
Question
I have a 8' Daiwa rod from about 1973. I haven't used for many years and want advise on what line to use. I can't read line # on the rod anymore but I will be fishing for panfish and bass. Thanks.
Answer
Sorry for the delay, judging by the length of the rod I would recommend starting with a 4 or 5 weight line and see how it casts with either of those two weights. If the line seems too wispy then move to the larger weight. If the line feels heavy during casts, then try the lower weight. Stick with a weight forward line, it is a bit more forgiving to cast.
I hope this helps,
Gary
