push slice with new driver

Question
I have recently swapped my taylormade burner 10.5 stiff shaft driver for a tour preferred burner 9.5 stiff shaft. I was previously driving the ball 300 plus yards with a slight fade but the drives where going very high at the same time which hurt me when playing in windy conditions, this was the only reason for changing the club. I didn't realise at the time that the burner TP's club face was 2degrees open, im now suffering from a push slice and cant seem to get rid of it, as far as im aware im swinging the club exactly the same so could this 2 degree change in club face be the cause?

Answer
Hello stewart:
Thanks for asking and sharing this question.

I think I agree with you that 2 degree more open in the club could be the cause.
However, before taking another action, I'd like to recommend a couple of things for you.
Please remember that most of tour Pros are using even less than 9.5 degree, such as 8 or 81/2 or 9.
So, they can hit the ball long with a lot of control.  I think you can do the same thing if you apply our effort in the right way.

First, use your normal swing (i.e. grip, swing plane and temp all together)with putting the ball around tip or slight inner of left toe.  This means that the ball is positioned a little farther to the left.  This will promote the up-swing of driver and slice.  Do the checking swing 3 - 4 times, and hit the ball.  And watch how the ball flies.  Please do hitting 3 times with keeping the same routines.  Do not just put the ball and hurry to hit the ball 3 or 4 times.  I don't mean that.  Keep the routine as if you are teeing off at the golf course.

Secondly, again use your normal swing. Do not change any of your grip, swing and tempo. This time, please put the ball a little inside or along the your left thigh. And hit it and see.  Do this 3 times.

Lastly, please put the ball a little more to center.  In this case, the ball would be placed in the middle of left foot and center point of your body.  So far, the ball has been gradually moved from farther left to the right a little.  And hit the ball 3 times with the same routine.

I want to you compare the above three different cases.  Which case gives you the best result?
If all three do not work at all for you, I think you may want to consider to change to another club.  However, I think you will find some good results.

One more thing.  I want to make sure that when you grip/hold the club and put it on the ground, the club head should be naturally square to the ball and sitting with balanced weight.  I don't want you to force to grip more close (you said 2 degree open).

I think you are already a seasoned player based on what I hear from you, hitting 300+ yards.
I hope my suggestion will help you and enjoy a great golf!

Thanks.
