Question
i am currently watching the WCG Accenture match play championship at the Ritz-Carleton GC Dove mountain in Marana Arizona.  I have noticed many of the players pick up their ball before finishing the putt.  They make the green and take first putt but when it misses they do not finish the last stroke.  The distance does not appear to be a factor (ie less than 6 inches) Can you explain why please?
Thank you,
Lisa

Answer
Hello Lisa:
Thanks for asking this question.  It was a very good observation.

WCG Accenture is a match play instead of a stroke play.  In other word, a player doesn't have to finish the last put (i.e. get the ball into putting hole) if the other play concede that it is good. Pros normally do not make a mistake when putting within 6 inches.

However, you may see the situation when the other doesn't concede a short putt when the competition is extremely intense such as Ryder cup.
