Practice routines

Question
QUESTION: Hello, my name is Justin and I have been playing the game for 5-7 years.  I have been a scratch golfer for the last year or so, and I am currently looking into the Hooters Tours next year or the year after.  I was wondering if you have any practice routines you could share with me to improve my game even more.  I am a member at a local golf club and have unlimited use of the practice facility.  I am looking for a complete game practice routine.  I am 27, and in need of a practice schedule to better my game.  Thank You for your time and answers.

ANSWER: Justin,

I need to know how much time you have before I can make a recommendation as to your practice routine. If your are working with a PGA Professional I would suggest you go to him/her and ask for a practice routine from your Pro.

Playing in as many tournaments is crucial because the game is so different when the pressure is on. After each round analyze each shot and write it in a book. Your weaknesses will be evident and this is how you would form your practice routines.

Let me know how much time you have each day and I will get more detailed.

Good luck to you.

Michael

QUESTION: Hello Michael,
Thank you for replying to my question so fast.  I usually have about 2-4 hours in the afternoon each day.  I work an odd schedule so every other monday, Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday I have off, equaling about 8 full days off a month.  Thank you in advance.

Justin

Answer
Justin,

I would have you focus 70% of your practice time on your short game. This part of the game is so critical. Play as much as you can especially in tournaments. When you play at your course round up the best players that you can. This will help your game as well.

Get with a PGA Professional to help you with your game. It's important that you confide in someone to help with the physical and mental aspects of your game.

Thanks again and keep me posted with your progress.

Michael
