Hello, im having trouble with my transition from the backswing to the downswing i was wondering if you have any tips for me to practice getting a better downswing. I am confused on weather to move my hands hips or weight first. Thank you

Hello John:  The lower body should initiate the downswing and in order for that to happen, you must be balanced.  Good balance is a product of a certain setup that allows the weight to start and remain on the balls of the feet.  This setup position also allows for the club to be swung around and under without getting in the way.  All but a couple touring pros are in this position and it would be wise to copy it; you can't argue with the money.  Follow these steps and you'll start the swing in balance.
1.  With your knees locked straight, bend at the hips so that your shoulders move out past your toes an inch or two.  Then rock forward until you feel the weight on your tip toes.
2.  Barely flex your knees (just enough to unlock them) and you'll feel your weight settle back onto the balls of your feet.
3.  Play the ball far enough away to allow the arms to hang from the shoulders.

As you make the swing, your shoulders will pass under your chin (if you don't have it tucked) and your weight should shift to the rear.  A good reference is to move your sternum (breast bone) over your back foot without the weight on that foot moving off the ball of that foot.  From that position it should become fairly easy to begin the forward transition by either moving the lead hip forward or by pushing off the back foot.  It's important to not let the weight get to the outside of the back foot or to its heel because you can't push off from your heel or from the outside of the foot.
