Ball Flight Too High

Question
I am a 2 handicap who hits the ball very high....too high for my liking.  I lose distance in windy conditions and I am not getting any roll on my driver.  I play a Callaway Fusion 8.5 driver with a factory "strong" shaft.  I routinely hit the ball over 300 yards, but it is almost all carry.  I play Titleist 690 MB irons with "stiff" factory shafts and I have all my irons delofted by 2 degrees.  I still hit the ball very high.  I do have a very upright swing with a sharp angle of attack.  Any ideas on how to produce a more penetrating ball flight?  Any ideas are greatly appreciated!!!  Thanks.

Answer
Jeff,

Since you are a 2 handicap that can routinely hit the driver 300 yards, I wouldn't advise tinkering with your swing. Let's look at the equipment. Your driver has a strong shaft in it and your irons have stiff shafts in them. I would suggest a couple of things to try.

First have you ever tried hitting extra stiff shafts. This should bring down your trajectory and it sounds as though your swing speed can handle them. The other possibility is to try shafts that have a low kick point (if yours aren't already). This will also bring down that "high" ball as you refer to it.

The last suggestion that I have for you is to experiment with your ball position with the driver. Sometimes moving the ball up in your stance and teeing it higher can actually bring down the trajectory. This is because the driver will be ascending at impact.

Thanks for the question and best of luck.
