Reverse Overlapping Grip: Putting & Chipping to Irons & Woods - Golf Digest

Question
I notice that a lot of golfers (Tiger W. in a chipping article) use the reverse
overlapping grip for putting and chipping.  What happens when it is used for
irons and woods?  I used it and thought it worked well.  thanks, Gene

Answer
Gene:
Not much, personal thing.   The reason golfers use the reverse overlap grip on chips and putting is it quiets down any hand or wrist action.  I am not sure that would be OK with your swing, however, if you happen to be a flipper or too wristy in your golf swing, then I would imagine it would work better.  Our goal with the grip is to have your hands function together as one unit and to be able to square the clubface up at impact.  How we get that done is irrelevant.  A classic overlap or interlock or 10 finger grip seems to work best but who is to say if it helps you, I'd keep doing it.  I guess that is the beauty of golf Gene.  Good luck.
