4 ball matchplay strokes

Question
hi john; our problem is that we play a 4 ball matchplay split in 2 teams the problem is on my team i stroke on 4 holes & my partner on 2 holes on opponents team one of them on scratch the other like me strokes on 4 but on hardest hole who strokes on who we cant stroke on both players its so confusing what to do on hole both stroke.

Answer
Hi John:  Your question makes me think that you yourself are playing against one person on the opposing team and that is not the case.  If I understand your game correctly you and your partner's best net score on each hole is played against the best net score of your two opponent's.

On the #1 handicap hole, you, your partner and the opponent with the 4 strokes would all stroke on that hole with the lowest net score winning the hole.  The same would hold true on the #2 handicap hole.  On the #3 & #4 handicap holes you and your opponent with 4 strokes would both stroke.  From that point on all would play even.  Your opponent playing at scratch receives no strokes at all.

I hope this clears up the matter for you but if it doesn't, please don't hesitate in writing again.

Fairways and Greens,

John
