Driver Teeing Up and swing tip

Question
Hi,
Recently changed my driver to a higher loft 12 Degree 460 Hex / square driver to try and improve my fade / slice.  Although I can see some improvement in distance and less fade i am struggling to decide on ball position and tee height along with a basic swing package that might help me go a bit straighter

Answer
Hi Richard,

Great that you've switched to a higher loft driver and gained more distance. Most golfers use drivers with too little loft for their club head speed.

For ball position, it's ideal to tee the ball at a position that corresponds to the bottom of your swing arc or just starting the upswing. Where relative to your feet that is depends on how well you shift your weight onto your front foot in the downswing.

To determine this position, tee a ball up in some long grass. I'd use a wood or hybrid. Mark the positions of your feet with tees. Place a club along your target line next to your teed ball. Hit the ball and take note of where the shortest grass is. This corresponds to the bottom of your swing arc. Note where this position is relative to your feet (stance). Is it off the front toe, heel or farther back in the stance? Repeat this a few times to get an average.

Now hit 10 drives off a tee with the ball placement at the bottom of the swing arc. Repeat this with 10 drives with the ball at a position 1 inch forward of the bottom of the swing arc. You might even try 1 inch back and maybe 2 inches forward and backward. Take note of which position yielded the best "average" drive.

Also, make sure you tee the ball high enough. With new drivers, the sweetspot is on the upper portion of the clubface, not the center.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes at [email protected]
