Wedge & Driver Selection

Question
I have a Ping Eye 2 PW at 48* and I'm looking to add another wedge, perhaps the Cleveland 900 form-forged, what degree wedge would you suggest? I hit my current PW 130-135 yards and I'm looking for something for about 90-100 yards out?

I have a Mizuno MP-001 400cc w/ 9* loft and I'm looking to fit it with a stiff shaft, would you suggest a particular one? I have a swing speed of about 98-101 mph with a bit of a draw.

Answer
Hey Ahmad,

Cleveland makes some great wedges...I have a couple.  My best guess would be to go with something in the 55 - 56 degree range.  I like to use a sand wedge with between 12 & 15 degrees of bounce, and most 56 degree wedges will fly right at 100 yards for me with an easy full swing.

I'm not as well versed on the shafts on the market right now.  It sounds as if your swing speed would be appropriate for a stiff.  Don't let anyone talk you into an extra stiff unless you're swinging up over 110 mph all the time. You might check Mizuno's web site and see which shaft configurations they sell stock clubs with.  You also might send your driver to them and have them re-shaft it for you.  Sometime the mfg can do this nearly as cheap as someone at a golf shop, and you'll know it was done right.

Good luck.

John
