regripping

Question
I just bought new grips for my clubs and they came with a water activated grip tape. When I pushed the grips over the tape a large amount of adhesive built up at the base of the grip. This is the first time I have used water activated tape is this normal or do you think they will not hold well?

Answer
Hey Justin

I've been out of the loop for a few years...I haven't even heard of water activated grip tape.  How handy is that? I always had to use paint thinner.  I think the grips are probably fine.  Just wipe the extra gooey stuff off before it dries.  Like I said, I've never used these before.  You might try shaking a some water inside the grip before you put it over the tape.  That might make it slip on a bit easier and not be as messy.  To be sure they're on tight, just watch the butt end of the grip.  If it starts to slip after a while you'll notice the butt end of the grips will wiggle around if you push on them...this would mean that the grips aren't holding.  My guess is that they'll hold fine.

Good luck.

John
