I dont know what clubs to get

Question
i am a 15 year old golfer, and i have been playing for 2 years on a pair of womens clubs that i got when my dad didnt want to spend alot on clubs because he didnt know if i would stick with golf or not. i have been playing with them, and for the last 6 months i have been playing with my dads mens tommy armour clubs. for my 16th bday, on 0ct. 25th, i am gonna get some a new set of irons only. (i like my 52, 56, and 60 degree wedges, and i got a taylormade driver last year for my bday) i need to know what are some good irons for me to try out and potentially buy. the only guidelines that the clubs need to follow is that they are mens, right handed clubs, that have that "explosive" pop off of the ball. the kind you get when you strike a ball perfectly, and it you cant even feel the impact of the ball. that "pop" i have found in my dads tommy armour silver scots, and until then i didnt even know i could hit the ball that farther. those 129 dollar womens clubs are holding me back, so i need your advice. what brand/make/model of irons do you suggest. feel free to suggest an iron based on what someone who owns the clubs has to say about their expierience with the clubs.

thank you a bunch,
Jonathan Marshburn

Answer
Dear Jonathan, thanks for the question.  It sounds like you're well on your way to a great life of golf.  I must say, however, that I would be completely remiss and irresponsible to even begin to suggest something so important as irons without the luxury of seeing you play etc.  The greatest gift you could give yourself (or perhaps part of that birthday present) would be to spend some time with a local PGA Professional.  Now, I'm not talking about having a custom tailored set made for you, I'm simply suggesting that you have someone look over your swing and tell you things like...which shaft you need, what lie would be appropriate and the size of your grip...to name a few.  So many of the brands today are solid and well made, having gone through years of research and development.  You needn't worry about quality.  What you should be worrying about is what looks and feels AWESOME in your hands.  For instance, certain clubs to me, look awful the minute I look down at the head...others look just right and still others look ok, but not don't really excite me.  The game is played so much between the ears that you have to really love the look and feel in order to be confident on every swing.  When I was your age, PING had just come out with the hottest club in the world...personally I hated them...to me they looked like a shovel more than a club.  You may be interested to know that a year before you were born, I bought a set of Silver Scots myself...True-temper extra-stiff Dynamic Golf shafts with half-cord grips.  I still play with them today (new grips of course) and can't imagine anything else.  The message Jonathan is simple.  Golf club quality is in the eye of the beholder.  Check out as many clubs, patiently, as you can, and trust me, you'll know YOUR club the minute you pick it up.  Thanks again for the question, good luck, and let me know what you go with.  And remember...

Love the game,
