Chances of ever being a Pro

Question
Paul,  you recently answered a young man's question about turning pro at the age of 22 with only less than one years experience.  Your response was very informative; however, I am 34 years old, have played a little in the past and due to careers and life circumstances fell from golf but I am now able to focus on golf almost 100 percent.  What would be the chances of ever turning pro and reaching the PGA level?  I am realistic and understand my age is a factor and how hard it is to even get into Q school, but I am just curious what you think are the chances.  I am a believer that anything is possible with hard work and determination.

Answer
Jason,

"What would be the chances of ever turning pro and reaching the PGA level?"

Slim...

Which is why you should go for it.

Yes, your age is a factor working against you and the competition from younger men who are also working hard is significant.  But with hard work and determination you can do it.  Much more improbable feats have been accomplished.  Much greater odds have been over come.

Why shouldn't you be the one in ten thousand that sets a goal, works hard and gets it done.  How in the world could I ever say you couldn't do it?  How could anyone say you can't make it?  Of course you "can".  The only question is...will you?  And you are the only one in control of that answer.  You alone determine the out come.  As you stated during your question...."with hard work and determination".

Go for it Jason.  Even if you fall a little short, imagine the journey, how much you will learn and how good you'll feel about yourself for having given it your best.

Good luck!

Blue skies,

Paul Dolman
