Question
I have four years experience with explosives and my question is, how do i find a job working with avalanche control?

Answer
hi Abe & thanks for the question,

I cant give you specific details but having learnt a little about it over the years i can say that avalanche control is usually done by ski patrol in most resorts with specialists within in that in control of the explosives. Some resorts avalanche control is done in conjunction with groomers/snow makers.

Check out websites for local resorts you're interested in and contact them directly to find out who you will need to speak to. There will be a testing period whereby you may need to be able to ski or ride & i would strongly suggest you get a first aid certificate as well. Experience on snow mobiles would also be a benfit to you & you will be required to do an avalanche awareness course [usually 2-3 days].

hope that helps & good luck

lisa
