Snow Ski Storage

2016/7/22 11:06:35

Question
I live in Southeast Texas. I would like to know the best way to store my snow skis during the off season. The temperature in my garage can get as high as 110 deg.F during the summer. Should I hang my skis from a rack by their tips, lay them flat on the floor or something in between?

Answer
Hi, sorry for the delay (phone company disconnected us by accident)

Storing skis is quite easy as long as you put a little effort into the preparation.

It's more important to have the bases summer waxed. Its a thicker coat of wax left on to seal the bases to hinder them drying out. It will also protect the edges from rust.
Before using next season you'll need to scrape this back to the normal thickness. Either take tham into the shop or you can do it yourself.

Best way to store is to put them back to back and store on the tails as this will be the best way for the skis to keep natural/original camber.
Tying the skis together in the middle will ruin the camber as will storing flat.

Another thin got do is to loosen off the DIN on your bindingss. Using a screwdriver wind to the lower end of the scale.

HOWEVER YOU MUST HAVE THEM PROFESSIONALLY RESET BEFORE USING NEXT SEASON.... DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF.

If you don't think you'll take them to get readjusted - then don't touch them.
Loosening off the DIN allows the springs in the binding to 'relax'.

One last thing - if you want to, and a good idea in dusty or salty regions is to store your bindings covered. Best way is to wrap a plastic bag or material.

Is there anything else i can help you with?
Will you summer wax them yourself or would you like info on how to? Just let me know.

Hope this clears up a few cobwebs.
Have a great summer,

lisa
