i have a question on diving

Question
QUESTION: Hello, I am a freshmen& have been diving for almost 1 year, I love it so much. My high school swim team dose not have a diver coach so me and the other diver teach our self. I had previous lessons to get me started. I was wondering if you knew any place/people in the new haven, Connecticut area intrested to help.... Also I have done many inward tucks with no problem...  But one day I decided to do that dive while the swimmers were out of the pool need the diving pit and one swimmer freaked out bescuse she thought I was so close to the board, the other diver said I was far enough away...ever sense then I have not done the inward, I am afraid I need to overcome it! Help me

ANSWER: Jaycey -

You should look into joining the beginning level program with a team called Next Generation Divers. They are located about a half hour south of you off highway 95 in Bridgeport. I could not find a club team in New Haven.

Their web address is www.nextgenerationdiving.com. Contact them and let them know you are a high school diver without a coach.

In the meantime, ask the head swim coach to not have swimmers tell you about your dives. They are probably looking at your dive from the wrong angle so what is the right distance on an inward looks close to them. I would just ignore what they have to say.

Good luck and make sure you get some coaching before trying any new dives.

QUESTION: Hi I was looking into joining Soco Diving at SCSU. I heard it pretty advanced. I have been diving 1 year. So I'm like at the beginner level but a little further. And I want to try it but I'm afraid I will be at a much lower level then the others. But then again its one of the only clubs to join on off season. I need to learn my 6 dives for the High School season I'm September. I am going for a trial lesson. I'm not site what to do. Or who to turn to. My sister and brother are swimmers so they don't know anything. It's expensive and I was only going to do the 2 / 3 day per week lessons rather then 6 considering the 6 day a week is like $1,000 while the 3 day is $700.watch should I do. I need help .thank you

I'd like to help you but I am having a hard time understanding your question. I do not know what Soco or SCSU is as I do not live in your area. You are going to have to define what these letters mean.Is it a club team or school, city, college etc? Telling me the city and state you live in will also help.

As far as the cost goes, how long is the program for $700 vs. the one for $1000? Please state the number of weeks or months you get to dive for these amounts. You say you want to dive high school in September. When exactly is your high school season? Starting month and ending month?

I think you should review and proof read your sentences before you send a question. There are some that make no sense like " I'm not 'site' what to do" and "watch should I do".

Please feel free to ask a follow up question with more information that is more easily understood.

QUESTION: Sorry I mean I live in the new haven CT area. There's this team called SONOCO, aka soco diving its located at southern university,Connecticut.! It's a swim & team.SOCO stand for SOthern COnnecticut .The $700 is 3 months for twice a week. My parents are going talk to the coach to find out if I can go 3 days a week....I would originally start in January due to the holidays just around the corner. High school season starts the last week of august till about the middle of November.

- I know this diving team is hard. My friend is a swimmmer there and she tells me the diving there its pretty advanced... But I know I'm limited to diving teams/clubs on the off season.

My question is- should I go for it Evan though their will be pretty advanced divers there? I don't want to embarrass myself... But I do want to get better and push myself Beacause I love diving....

Answer
I think you should give this program a try. Even though you will be around advanced divers, do not be embarrassed because those same divers started out as new team members just like you. The other way to look at it is that it will help you get better by being around divers who have more experience than you.Watching them dive will help you figure out how to do your dives better. You have nothing to lose by trying it out for 3 months.

If you do not want to become a year round club diver then it may be better to practice for the 3 months right before your next high school season by waiting until the summer to join. This way you will be ready for high school diving next fall.

Good luck.
