Head Diving Coach Wanted in New Zealand

Question
Hi Tom.

I'm on the Board of Auckland Diving Community Trust which looks after diving for the two diving clubs located in Auckland, New Zealand.  We are looking for a Head Coach and I was wondering if you could suggest how we can promote our opportunity in the USA, as there are no suitable coaches available in our country.

We are offering either a 20 hour a week part-time position where they can just focus on being a great coach, and with talent identification.  Or we could support a full-time Head Coach if they had a background in sports administration and marketing.

Our best divers are in the junior ranks both national and international levels and we are very keen to give them the best coach we can find.  Any ideas you can suggest on how we could find them would be very welcome.

Thanks
Kerry

Answer
Hi Kerry -

Here are my suggestions on announcing your position in the states:

1. Go to www.usadiving.org. This is the website for our national governing body. Click on About Us and then jobs. This is the page where you could possibly place an ad that costs $50 (US). Ask the person in charge of this if they will take a foreign job posting. Your other choices are to click on Clubs and then Club Links. You could make a list of team websites and e-mail addresses to send your announcement. Also at Clubs, click on Find A Club. Enter each state individually to find teams in all 50 states. This is a time consuming method but it will be free.

2. Go to www.divemeets.com. Click on lists of divers, coaches and teams. Choose coaches or teams and a huge list will come up with contact info. Another time consuming way but also free.

3. Go to www.ncaa.org. This is the website for the national governing body of collegiate sports. At the top right hand portion of the home page, click on Employment. At that page click on Post A Job. Even though this is not a college job in the states, I have seen postings there for coaching jobs that are not in the USA. Contact the person who runs this employment page and ask if your posting will be accepted.

I am going next week to the FINA Junior Olympic World Diving Championships to be held at the University of Arizona in Tucson AZ. If you send me an e-mail with an attachment announcing this position, I will place copies of it at a retail booth run by a friend of mine who represents the Duraflex International Corporation (maker of all diving equipment) so coaches going by the booth can pick up a copy of this job announcement.

My e-mail is [email protected]. Send it right away as I will be leaving on Monday August 30th.
