Mastering Forward Approach & Back Roll in Diving: A Beginner's Guide

Question
How to do a proper forward approach and a backpress. What to do with my arms doing these, and where could I go on the internet to see a video of proper approach and backpress. This is the foundation of diving and its real important to me.  Thank you so much.   drsherman

Answer
Hi David -

I think I can answer your questions better if you give me a little more info on your diving experience. Send in a follow up question with the following answers:

Do you have a coach or just dive by yourself ?

Do you dive from the 1 & 3 meter or just the low board?

Can you tell me what dives you are trying to do ?

How long have you been diving?

Are you planning on competing or just dive recreationally?

If you can tell me the city/state you live in I can refer you to local clubs/coaches.

In the meantime, go to these websites for more info on diving and obtaining videos/books

www.usadiving.org -  click on 'Store' & 'Educational Materials'

www.usadiver.com -   click on 'Competitive Diving' book

www.flipnrip.com -   videos of great divers

www.aausports.org -  general diving info

If you are an adult diver go to www.mastersdiving.com

Good luck with your diving and I hope to hear back from you.
