Lake Baikal: Russia's Largest and Deepest Lake - Facts & Information

The largest body of water that falls withen one tarritory is Lake Baikal in Russia. Lake Baikal is located in southeastern Siberia and is the deepest lake in the world, with a maximum depth of 1,642 meters (5,387 feet). The lake is also the largest freshwater lake by volume, containing an estimated 23,600 cubic kilometers (5,700 cubic miles) of water. Lake Baikal is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to a variety of unique and endangered plant and animal species, including the Baikal seal.
