Proper Side Stroke Technique for Lifesaving: Top Leg Position
Question
I was always taught to bring the leg closest to the surface back and lower leg forward. Where can I find pictures or diagrams showing top leg back as every place I have looked show top leg forward. Is there a variation on which leg goes back ?
Answer
Mary-- The top leg back is used for lifesaving for two reasons:
1. So the rescuer still has a strong kick while swimming and
2. So the victim doesn't get kicked during the rescue.
Traditionally, the top leg is supposed to go forward. I really don't know of any diagrams available.
hope this helps,
George
