surface diving

Question
I am enrolled in a lifeguard class and the only part I am hesitant about is the surface dive to pick up the 10 lb weight.  The problem is that I am very buoyant and have difficulty getting to the bottom of the lake.  Any tips?

Answer
About the only tip I can give you is that when you start your head and arms toward the bottom, make sure you bend over enough to get your hips above your head and let gravity do its work.  With practice you should be able to do it, I have never seen anyone who is so bouyant that they can't get under water.
