Underwater distance swimming

Question
George,

I am training for a Navy class II swim test.  I consider myself a very good swimmer.  The last part of the test is a 25 meter underwater swim.  I can only get to about 20 meters.  How can I get another 5 meters?  Should I try to go as fast as possible or try more finesse to save my breath.  What stroke do you recommend?

Thanks for your help.
Ray

Answer

The easiest way to swim further underwater is to relax and stay streamlined with a good dolphin kick.  Many people have success doing multiple breaststroke pull-outs under water.
If you can make 20m. the last 5 is just a matter of relaxing and reaching for the wall.
Good Luck,
George
