College

Question
Hey coach,
I've been involved with wrestling since I was in first grade and went all the
way through highschool. I finished strong my senior year as a first time
varsity wrestler and one of two state qualifiers for my school that year. I
graduated in 09. I want to start wrestling in college but I don't  have
money and my parents won't help. My mom and stepdad makes to much
for me to really get any aid. I want to go back to college but i don't know
where my best chance of going would be since I've been out of it for two
years. What would you recommend I do?

Answer
Hey Ryan,

Thanks for the question. You are technically what would be your red-shirt period ( 1-2 years after highschool)You are eligible for many grants that you will have to search out as an independent student that has no financial support from your parents. Be thorough and leave no stone unturned, also consult with financial aid departments at the school of your choice for further recommendations. Hopefully, your grades reflect excellence for that is always a requirement for close consideration where school money is concerned from an institutional standpoint. Also, contact the NHSCA (http://www.nhsca.com)which is an organization designed to help wrestlers maximize their exposures for the next level of achieving a higher education. Stay up on your workouts in all aspects so that a college coach will be glad to give you a shot at the title. Keep me posted on your progress and I will see what I can do on my end. Check out my sites (http://opp.sunrider.com/healthessentials ) (http://healthessentials.yourbodyiswater.org) for the best in nutrition and hydration which will be critical for your physique for wrestling at the collegiate level. Good luck in your pursuit!

Yours in the Quest for Gold,

Coach Rae-Rae
